We want you to enjoy bridge at JBC. Some of us are very happy playing our game and coming back next time for another shot and that is fine. Others may have a sneaking feeling that, with a bit of help, they still have room for some improvement.
None of us is in the first flush of youth and we all have to work hard at learning. To this end, we will be offering three types of learning experience during 2008.
The first new venture to get off the ground, thanks to the enthusiasm of Peter Hindley, is a short series of short but sharp lessons. They will commence at 2.40 pm on Mondays and you can be assured that you will not be overloaded with information as he has to get a tournament started by 3.00 pm. If you want short attention span instruction, this is the place for you. He is bound to have some very worthwhile material for you to digest. The initial program is:
Monday February 18th - That Vital Extra Trick
Monday February 25th - Tricks with Trumps for Declarer
Monday March 3rd - Slam Bididng
Monday March 10th - Tricks with Defender’s Trumps
If these sessions are popular, there will be further modules during the year.
The second string to our bow will be workshops, later in the year, given by a variety of players and scheduled for Thursday mornings. These sessions will be longer in duration and are to be held in the mornings as an isolated unit, with no implied requirement to continue without a break and to play a tournament.
The third way to learn is to attend the Wednesday Tournaments. There are already occasional ad hoc 5 minute lessons and, as always, if you want to ask an experienced player to partner you, many of them are happy to oblige and to coach you, as an individual, without pressure. Contact John Hall or Margaret Wood to arrange such sessions on a personal basis. You can try asking for anyone and, if we can fix it, we will. Not all of our more experienced players will be available but you may tempt them with a request by name.
